Bat Cave Hong Pyramid
Bat Cave Hong Pyramid
Location: Bat Cave Hong, Koh Penak, Phang Nga Bay , Thailand
The pyramid rock survives because its extreme hardness makes it super-resistant to eroding waters. It started deep inside the island (mountain), probably directly below an underground river, and withstood the rains of time once the surrounding rock melted away and exposed the pyramid to the skies. The fluting demonstrates how eons of rain sculpted the limestone into its beautiful shape, and just a meter from the pinnacle is a small hole where a careful eye can see the cliff foliage through the rock. The Bat Cave Hong started as "solid" limestone in an island 3-5 times the size of the Koh Penak you see today. The entire Hong cavity was eaten away by rain and underground rivers.
