We started internships in 1977 for the University of Hawai'i Journalism School when Caveman was Aloha United Way Marketing Director. In three years, 30 fledgling journalists saw their by-lines appear in major daily newspapers for the first time. In 1980, Caveman advised the Honolulu Junior Ad Club when they won the USA National Public Service Project award. Twenty-five years on, most participants are now major players in Honolulu media and marketing circles.

Since Caveman teaches Sustainability and Ecotourism in several universities, we've done Thailand internships for the past decade, hosting 10-12 interns/year, including two Dutch students for six months from Breda University's NHTV School of Travel.

Interns should be enrolled in a legitimate academic program under direction of an academic advisor, offering academic credits. At JGSC, interns engage in real-world efforts in concert with academics, and are expected to pursue scholastic goals with the vigor of self-starters. You should swim, and enjoy natural history and the sea.

Internships are free, but students accept their own living expenses. Phuket Town is packed with affordable and dependable housing, and food is cheap. By Thai law, we cannot offer work-for-pay, and we are not responsible for any intern's costs.

And we still accept journalism students.
